Our Friend, Sam...Rest Little One

Friends, I hope that all of you are enjoying your Sunday.  On this day I write to let you know that momma and I lost a wonderful little friend today.  Due to patient confidentiality, I cannot tell you the real name of the little guy, but for the purposes of my blog, we'll call him Sam.  Sam was an angelic, toe-headed blond boy, all of the age of 8.  A little tough guy that changed the world around him.  Sam lived every day as though it was his last.  He had cancer, and while he tried to fight the beast within, he couldn't fight it fast enough or strong enough.

Sam had a gift.  He could tell when you knew he was not getting any better and he was able to tell you, "It's okay, tomorrow is another day!"  And, often, tomorrow was another day.... just not today.  Sam lived every day with joy, with love and shared his light with anyone willing to see the joy in every day.  Sam's parents comforted us today, lonely and quiet in the hospital wing.

I wanted to share that I would visit Sam every day at the hospital.  He was unable to receive many visitors, but his momma asked the medical team to allow me access to Sam, that I could come and go as I pleased because it brought her sweet little boy joy and release from his pain.  I would visit Sam, bringing him cheddar bagels, and he would give me kisses.

Today I mourn for my friend Sam.  Tomorrow I shall rejoice in the love that a little boy brought me.  Please look up in the sky and give thanks for my friend Sam, he changed my world.

Thank you, MattieDog

  1. A very touching article, and I've done as you ask.

I hope you realize how much you must have changed Sam's and his parents' world, too.

Those who see the joy in every day are a blessing to the world, whether they have two legs or four.

Thanks for sharing this post - it can't have been an easy one to write.
