Recently momma and dadz went to an event where there was a silent auction held to raise funds for a local charity. Momma had been eyeing one auction bid, 12 cooking session with a fairly well known local chef. Momma scribbled down her bid and low-and-behold she won time with the chef!
Momma was so excited, but on the day that she was to have met with the chef she got sick with sinus and upper respiratory infection. The scheduling of her prize would have to wait.... and wait.... and wait... she was sick for quite a while. While she was recovering my dadz got a phone call from Stephen, the manager from the local men's shelter asking for donations. Dadz talked to Stephen and found out that the shelter was starting a new program called Table & Tips, where shelter participants signed up for a 12 week program to learn how to bus and wait restaurant tables. Participants will learn how to "get their foot in the door and start a new career in the restaurant field," said Stephen.
Dadz knows Stephen, he's worked with him on other programs, so dadz asked him what he needed for Tables & Tips. Stephen said that they had a commercial kitchen willing to provide space, and that it had a ready supply of pots, pans, plates and utensils but that they still needed chefs to help with the 12 sessions. Later that night I heard momma and dadz talking about momma'z prize of cooking sessions with the chef. "Do you think he'd do it?" asked momma. "Hard to say," said dadz.
The next day momma and I took a walk down by the ocean and watched a man digging for geoducks. I like geoducks, they squirt at you and so I trotted over to the man and with my two front paws helped him dig, dig, dig to free the critter. Momma started talking with the man and found out that he was the chef she was suppose to have 12 cooking sessions with! Startled and full of energy, momma ventured forth with her request to contribute her 12 cooking sessions to the Tables & Tips program. The chef was surprised and touched by the request and since he had worked with Stephen on other programs decided to take momma up on her offer if she agreed to be his assistant during the sessions. I heard momma agreeing to assist the chef as I started digging out a geoduck that just squirted me.
Who knows why one thing, that leads to another thing, and on to another thing, and that the simple connection may indeed change the course of someones life... just don't get too caught up in worrying about things or over-thinking the questions. Take a leap and enjoy the kismit!
